Coolroom is a UK digital download store offering films and music to own and rent. It is accessible online and as a bespoke IPTV channel on Microsoft's Windows Media Center available on laptops, desktops and home entertainment PCs. Users can preview cinema releases and download full feature films and music.
Coolroom experimented with immersive 3D chat environments during a period when most social platforms were still 2D. Its cultural impact lies in pushing early expectations for avatar‑based presence and spatial socialization. Though niche, it influenced later attempts at browser‑based 3D hangout spaces. It helped demonstrate that users valued atmosphere and vibe as much as functionality.
