High Fidelity is an American company headquartered in San Francisco, which formerly focused on social virtual reality. High Fidelity provided a virtual reality platform for users to create, deploy, visit, and interact with virtual worlds along with other users. As of 2020, they appear to have pivoted to 3D audio software.
High Fidelity pushed the boundaries of spatial audio and low‑latency networking in social VR, influencing technical standards across the entire VR industry. Its open‑source approach helped seed a generation of decentralized VR experiments. The platform demonstrated that high‑quality audio presence could be as socially important as visual fidelity. Many VR platforms today use spatial‑audio conventions first popularized by High Fidelity.
